Seeing your girls would be worth it but traveling that far would take its toll on a healthy person.

Thanks for the sympathy Lynn. Sorry to hear you aren't feeling well either danegirl! It took 5-1/2 hours to NY JFK and 9 hours to Germany. We had a long layover on way home. Landed in Atlanta, GA airport which I hated because of the noise and confusion (took 9-1/2 hrs to get there from Frankfurt). Even with illness, horrible travel conditions, we are glad we went--it was worth the misery. I hate airline travel.

Louise I am so glad your tests are not showing anything serious. How long did the flight to Germany take?

I'm still coughing like crazy. Felt better yesterday, but not good today AGAIN. All my bloodwork at Kaiser is coming back in normal range. Still using inhalers.

Yes Gator, my mom made bread and butter pickles too. She frequently used wax to seal the jar and lids. Is that what you do?

Gator do you have something that cores and peels the pears? I had a home made machine from my Grandmother to do the apple sauce. About 4 of us would get together and make our yearly supply of sauce for our own families. We all had young children and access to lots of apples. I was 24 years old the first time I experienced morgellons symptoms and I was a very healthy person. Bringing up all this talk about canning food reminds of what a Healthy life style we lived.

Oh, I freeze the muscadines, but this year I think I will try canning some . Some people make grape wine from them.

Soon it will be time to pick Muscadine grapes. Some people call them scuppanongs. I like the deep purple ones the best. I save t he seeds and dry the skins then I make grapeseed tincture. It is good for the cardio system.

I canned 4 quarts and 8 pints of pears today. Tomorrow I will can more. My Mother taught me how to can and we did a lot of it together when she was here and I was young. I really enjoyed canning the pears and reliving some good memories of days gone by. I prepared a share bag of pears for a couple of friends and still have a lot more to can tomorrow. I think I'll have pear salad tomorrow . My mom made wonderful Bread and Butter pickles and dill pickles. I don't remember how to do that except she soaked the cucumbers in Alum and pickling lime and they were always very crunchy. I wish I remembered how to make kraut in a a cllay container like mom did. I tried it and the kraut was terrible. Louise, I bet your Mom made kraut as well. Fermented foods are good for us and I love homemade kraut.

My mom was 100% Swiss-German - she learned to pickle from her mom. Maybe that was why they were so crisp and perfect. I'd like to learn to do that too. Does it save money?

Tomato sauce is one food I would like to can rather than buy in a metal can even if lined. The jars of sauce are expensive. I use to can apple sauce, jams and fruits. you do not have to put all that sugar in but do have to boil and process for longer. I never liked the way my pickles turned out. There were crock methods that I have not tried I think they keep the pickles more firm and crisp compared to pouring brine over cukes and processing.

I'd love to learn to can, as Mama did it every year; pickles were the best I've ever had; jams, tomatoes, berries, pears--whatever we could get our hands on, we canned and we kids always had to help (a good thing). We were poor....

I'm so sorry gator. My friend I told you about also has MCS/EI and CFS. She's been sick for years--met her at a support group. She goes to see family 1x/year and will always have to take axygen with her I think.

today, I had a ride to go pick pears at a friends house. They are 92 and 93 years of age. She has gone down hill since I last saw them. We had a great visit. Now I have about 2 bushels of pears to can. Lots of work! UGH. They will be great to have for the winter months and all I will have to do is open them and eat. I make pear salad, put them in smoothies, and add them to my rice cereal or make a pear sandwich.

Oxygen like anything else can be good or bad. Cindy is right, oxygen can kill. It is not something to play with. It is a lifesaver used under the right circumstances, but can be very dangerous. Louise, I would have to have oxygen the entire time I was on a plane. I carry oxygen with me everywhere I go because I am always running into chemicals and have a bad reaction. Perfusion takes over and I must have oxygen. Chemical Illness/EI/TILT. Morgs and Chronic Lymes ALL make life a living Hell.

I did not know this about oxygen. A friend traveling to Pennsylvania actually had to have oxygen on her way to see her family on an airplane. Awful experience for her.

Not being able to breathe and asthma are not funny, the welding tank struck me as funny

Yeah, it happens quite a bit and it happens even in hospitals sometimes.

Thank you Cindy, I was just having fun with it should not because gator and louise are both having a hard time breathing. I would choose diving air or over welding air

I guess I should be more clear about the oxygen danger. If you have any disease in which you tend to retain carbon dioxide (COPD is the big one that comes to mind) then it doesn't take much oxygen sometimes to completely knock out your drive to take a breath. So oxygen can kill and this is how.
